Norwich Business School’s MBA student’s visit to Theatre Royal

During a sunny February afternoon, 2019 full-time MBA students took a short academic trip to Theatre Royal, one of the East of England’s largest and most successful theatres in Norwich. We had just finished the Marketing Strategy module, and we had the opportunity to discuss with the Marketing Manager in the Theatre Royal and related the marketing theory to real practice.

The trip included a discussion session with the Marketing Manager as well as a tour of the backstage. During the Q&A session, we asked questions about how to do the market segmentation, what kind of promotion were used during the marketing process and how to control the budget, etc. The marketing manager kindly answered all the questions, and told us about how to do the marketing plan for a charity theatre with over 250 years of history.

During the backstage tour, it is an extraordinary experience for the students to see what the backstage looks like. We know more about how a theatre operated and how to put on a fantastic show combined with sound effects, lighting, and choreography.

Though this short academic trip only lasted an afternoon, we had a great time and an opportunity for discussion with a real marketing manager, is which was extremely helpful for the next study. Also, this trip provided a short break and relief for my classmates and me from stressful study. During this trip, we strengthened class cohesion and increased our friendships. 2019 MBA, go!
